Front Porch Visitors

Our family spends a lot of time on our front porch.  It's not a big porch but there is a two-seater swing, two rockers and a small bench so it's the perfect cozy place to hang out in the summer.
My husband loves birds and he spends a lot of time feeding them and with the heat we've been having, he keeps all the birdbaths filled with fresh, cool water.

Over the years we've had a number of hummingbird feeders, but a couple of years ago at the Powers' Crossroads Country Fair and Arts Festival  we found a handmade pottery hummingbird feeder that has brought us so many beautiful hummingbirds.   Because our porch is so small the birds are always just a few feet away so we are able to capture some beautiful photographs.   If you look carefully as you watch the video my husband filmed yesterday you will see the hummingbird's tongue.   Read a bit more about the hummingbird tongue here.
Today I'm linking up with The Tablescaper for Seasonal Sundays.   Hop on over and enjoy other scenes of summer.

  3. Jo-Jo: Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. Just wanted to mention that school does not normally start this early, but my son is a Community Advisor (CA for short) so he has to go back a little earlier than the rest of the students.

I've added you to my list of followers. I looked at your profile and I think I'm going to like what I see! :-)

  6. Aren't they just the most amazing tiny creatures? I love to sit outside and wait for the tell-tale sound of their wings as they come in to feed. That was a sweet video!

  7. I have hummers in my garden in spring and early summer, but haven't seen any recently. I'm sure they've gone to cooler places. ;-)

  9. What a treat at the hummingbird feeder! We enjoy our front porch as well. As a child, my sisters and I spent many summer days on our big front porch (or so it seemed to a child) reading and playing. Such nice memories.

    Best,
    Bonnie

  11. Once we went to palm springs and stayed at this place that practically had a hummingbird colony. We get them in Phoenix I really like how yours is flat on the table rather then hanging.

  13. That is such a wonderful video. I love hummingbirds but I did not feed them enough this summer. One time after a storm, we had up to 20 all at once feeding and humming all over the back porch, so much fun to watch....Christine

  15. Your large glass of ice tea looks very refreshing!! Am trying to make a batch today but have no idea if I have the right ratio tea bags to sugar. Porches, something I grew up with in the midwest and miss terribly!!! No porches here, although people do sit on their front stoop in the evenings to catch the breezes and gossip. Nothing like a swing and a few rocking chairs though. Soon we will be visiting the States and I intend to sit and enjoy my parents and siblings company on their front porch.
Humming birds- how lucky to see them so close!!!
Take care and have a good week!
