Time For Summer Reading

When summer rolls around something deep inside still fills like a student who feels compelled to make a summer reading list.   Is it just me or do you still have those same feelings of "school's out?"  I just finished reading Strength in What Remains, by Tracy Kidder and Hidden in Paris, by Corine Gantz, two very different books but both very good.

Strength in What Remains is the true story of Deogratias ‘Deo’ Niyizonkiza, a refugee from war-torn Burundi who arrives in New York with few belongings and unable to speak English.  It's an amazing story of someone who went from being homeless to attending an Ivy League school.   Click here to learn more.

Marie Arden Pink Living recently posted about Hidden in Paris  and I have to admit the beautiful cover really caught my eye.

Beyond the cover is a wonderful story of friendships, love and healing.  Be sure to put this one on your list.

My bookclub is reading The Poisonwood Bible this month so I've just downloaded it on my iPad.  I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I've actually downloaded a book on my iPad but it so much more portable for daily commutes.  I've also discovered that  reading in bed with an iPad is easier too.
As soon as I've finished my "required" reading I will be reading Summer Rental - I can't wait!
What's on your list?

  1. For some reason the pictures aren't showing---I'm not sure if it is me or you...

I'm reading Chaz Bono's autobiography and I think it is a really an important book. Shining a light on something that is not talked about very much but is a fact of life. Oy's called "TRANSITION".

By the way, I just posted some new pictures of those Beautiful Jacaranda trees. I think you will enjoy it!

  2. I can't see the pictures either. I need to get my Granddaugers enrolled in a summer reading program. Thanks for a timely reminder. I have such a stack of books...I can't even remember what's in there anymore. I'm enjoying the last little bit of decent weather before the triple digits hit us...then it's officially reading time for me!

  4. Hi Jojo!
This is my first visit to your blog. I loved The Poisonwood Bible. I started rereading it a few weeks ago and I'd forgotten most of it! Go figure! Anyway, thanks for the book reviews. My husband uses his iPad in bed but I still hold old books up until I drop off to sleep. I'm a teacher and this is my last day, so YES I do have that summer feeling.

  7. I'm disciplining myself to read only for school until I'm finished my courses - hopefully by September.

But I'm making a list of all the books I want to read after that, and the list is growing daily. Your choices look intriguing.

Pictures showed up fine for me.
