Home Alone

No, not the  I'm home alone.  My husband, oldest son and the grandgirls are in Destin, Florida enjoying a beach vacation.  My middle child is celebrating the last moments of his friend's bachelorhood in Atlantic City.  My daughter is packing for Telluride, and me, well right now I'm at work.  I'll be putting in a long day today but when it's over, I'm headed home to heaven!

Last December for two weeks before Christmas I was home alone and oh how I loved the solitude and freedom!   I loved having time to watch movies, and truthfully, if I could, I would watch movies every day (and night).  My favorites are old classics, foreign films, romantic comedies, dramas and movies that have been filmed on beautiful locations.  I just love being able to enjoy the scenery when I can't travel.
Last night I watched My House in Umbria.

In every scene that showed one of those candlelit dinners under the wisteria, I was thinking how I might recreate such an affair for some family and friends later in the summer.  Oh what fun that would be!
Of course I woke up after watching the filming wishing I had time to take a magical vacation this year.  I would love to be able to take a relaxing two week trip to Lebanon to visit family and spend some time in charming villages like Jbeil.  Isn't it beautiful?   If you have time, click on the city name and read a bit about the amazing history of this beautiful seaside village.  And the lovely cobblestone streets lined with shops makes this one of my favorite places in all of Lebanon.
Do you still daydream?  I'm hoping to enjoy some movies tonight and do a little daydreaming.  Oh how I love summer.

  1. I’d love to go to Lebanon. My first-cousin’s wife is from Lebanon and we also have other family there. When I was a teenager I had a pen pal who was in Beyrouth and I always wanted to visit her (her French was perfect) – but now I have lost track of her.

I just heard some thunder, but it passed - no rain today. Have a nice week-end.

  2. No thunder here - we never get it.
This evening I'll be home alone as my husband and daughter are going to a movie I'd rather skip. I'm staying in my chair with needlework and Larkrise to Candleford - bliss!

  3. My husband and I just got back from a trip to Colorado to see my grandsons and celebrate our birthdays seeing a concert at Red Rocks. I love it out West and now that my daughter and her fiance are moving there I can see ourselves following one day. Of course NYC will always be *home* for me :) My husband yearns to see Italy again one day...we never saw the movie "My House in Umbria." I'm putting it on my Netflix queue ...thanks!

  4. Do you like the Hallmark channel? We love those movies, along with movies in a French setting - even WW2~ Linda

  5. I LOVED "My House In Umbria"....wonderful film...And the scenery was so beautiful, too....Maggie Smith is the Consummate Actress!

Oh do let us know what other films you watch. I LOVE watching films more than I can say.

  6. So we get taken out of ourselves for a while, and then maybe we can apply some of that ethereal feeling to the reality of our own lives. That's really what it's all about, isn't it?

  7. I love time alone. It doesn't happen very often. We are both here all the time! I send him to Costco alone which is a long trip, and other days I send myself to dish shop!
I love summer too, as my gkids come out to the beach and I get to see them more than once a month!

  8. I love time alone. Many of my friends do not understand this but to me it's rest for my body and mind! Hope you enjoy your time of leisure!

  9. I am dreaming of France...and it is one that WILL come true, a little determination going on here!

I have an amazing Giveaway from the Artisans at Novica. You will love it!

  10. Time alone when you can indulge in movies/food/schedule to your taste are wonderful. I hope you're enjoying yourself!

  11. I just watched the preview for My House in Umbria. It's definitely going on my list. How did I never hear about this movie?

Hope you had a fine weekend.

  12. Sadly for me, I've had to use my vacation time to fill up my timesheet when work has been slow. Hoping to get a few days in California in in August.

  13. I still daydream! And your post took me off to beautiful places. Just the two of us here, so I'm rarely alone. Love movies, but just sitting in a comfy chair with a good book or my needlepoint does it for me too.
    Enjoy your solitude. ~ Sarah

  14. Every time I think I crave some "alone time", I hear my Mother saying "Be careful what you wish for!" She haunts me sometimes, I swear. ;-)

Thanks for the preview of My House in Umbria. Just put it on my list. In fact, I may call Family Video right now to see if they have it on the shelf.

Its really nice to be back to blogging. I've missed talking to you.

♥♥♥ the porches! Sorry to have missed that party.
