Do you ever have one of those days when you just want to clear your mind and remember the past? It's not that I don't enjoy the present, but I really enjoy listening to "oldies," watching TCM and poking around flea markets just to enjoy things that prompt memories. It's actually funny when the grandgirls are visiting and they catch me watching black & white movies!
Can you guess this film? |
I subscribe to Pinterest but truthfully I try to avoid getting on there because it's too easy to start looking at things and get lost between the boards, pins and pictures. Today my DIL asked me a question about Pinterest which reminded me that I hadn't been on it in a while and it was a big mistake. I think I spent two hours just poking around looking at posters for old movies, looking at fashion from the 60s, hunting down my favorite toys, old stores (read about the first Mall in Georgia - and no it's not Lenox or Greenbriar) and finding pictures of advertisements for products that were part of my past.
My son told me that television viewing with the younger generation is down because of the increased number of hours spent gaming, watching movies that stream, internet surfing and gaming. I've not seen any statistics on this but at our house all generations watch less t.v. We spend hours on our computers.
Be sure to leave a comment and you could win a copy of Random Harvest, one of my favorite films. I'll be giving a copy away on Feb. 25. Stay tuned!
I do like TV and watch in the evenings. I still love the old movies also. I don't get on Pinterest too often as it is very addictive! I do read a lot also! Hugs, Linda
ReplyDeleteYes, we do watch TV in our home. I have my favorites, my husband has his and then we have some we like together. We generally watch tv every evening, unless we have company. I will say that we rarely watch TV in the summer time. We spent most evenings outdoors until it is dark and sometimes even then, we just light candles and stay out talking.
ReplyDeleteWe watch TV while multitasking on our iPads. Husband is a big movie fan and old black and white movies are some of his favorites. I spent hours as a child watching old black and white Shirley Temple movies and King Kong and Miracle on 34th St. Do you remember Million Dollar Movies where they showed the same movie the entire weekend? Of course my pare t's monitored what and now long we sat in front of the TV for fear we would fry our brains:-). Oh and my car is on auto pilot to super Jenny's!
ReplyDeleteCheryl, oh the first photo of the Nelson family brings back a flood of memories. Loved that show, and so many others ~ Father Knows Best, Loretta Young, ...
ReplyDeleteDon't watch much TV here, just the PBS News Hour, Antique Road Show, and the occasional special or movie. Mostly we spend our time reading, and I also stitch. Well, there is lots of time spent on the computer ~ email, bloggs, eBay. ~ Sarah
What memories! I'm sitting here watching the Grammys and thinking "they just don't make music like they used to." I guess every generation thinks that! I do think though that the best music, the best movies, the best toys...all those things were better in "the old days." I hate that my grandson plays so much video games...I'd rather see him outside riding his bike. But, of course, then I have to watch him like a hawk worrying that somebody in a white van will come along and snatch him! Life used to be so much simpler. Thanks so much for the memories!
ReplyDeleteOld films are so interesting to watch - there are styles in film making as well as fashion and home decor. We have never watched very much television, but probably watch less than we did before because of reading on the Web. No computer games here, though.
ReplyDeleteI seem to be on the computer more and more and TV watch less and less these days. Some evenings I say "No" to electronics and read a book --a real book, not a Kindle..lol! :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Pinterest but I agree it can be quite addicting...fun, but addicting.
I don't think I've seen "Random Harvest" but I'd probably like it since I love oldies. My favorite movie is Casablanca. What a cliché! But so what? A classic is a classic. I haven't had a chance to get on Pinterest too much. I think I've been waiting for a block of time to devote to it so I can learn to navigate through the site. It's probably not complicated, but, what with Facebook, and my blog and checking on the blogs I follow, and watching Downton Abbey on PBS, and my crochet afghan project, and reading, and trying to fit in a job amongst all these hobbies . . . I guess Pinterest is just going to have to wait a little longer . . .
ReplyDeletethere are days when I just want to curl up on the couch with a quilt and a pot of tea and watch all the old black and white movies. those are my "de-stress" kind of days!
ReplyDeleteI don't watch TV very much at all, but I do love to watch old movies! I'm on this computer more and more- I do love to curl up with a good book, nothing like it! Such a great way to relax~
ReplyDeleteWe watch TV, but never in real time. We use the PVR and I watch Downton Abbey two episodes at a time!
ReplyDeleteI live Ricky Nelson, so nice to see his picture here...Chriistine
ReplyDeleteI think the ONLY thing I watch any more is an occasional movie on TCM or AMC! The black and white dramas are my favorite (anyone for Wuthering Heights?), but lately I'm hooked on Doris Day and her incredible talent. I'd overlooked her nearly my entire life...what a sad mistake I made! Thanks for a great post, JoJo!
ReplyDeleteYes, we are tv people, even if it is just for background noise. We have cable Fox on all day until warmer weather when we can go outdoors.
ReplyDeleteI am into Downton Abbey on PBS, it is over now. Fri night it is Blue Bloods with my man, Tom Selleck. We watch old Seinfeld episodes, and I still watch Jeopardy. Dh watches sports, i like the cooking shows and qvc too.
What is super Jenny's that Joyce is talking about? It is a store? :)
My husband watches a lot of TV. I watch Jon Stewart in the morning. We watch the news at night because my husband likes that – I rather read the news online from different sources. I rarely watch TV programs but I made an exception for Downton Abbey because so many bloggy friends said it was a good series. I spent a lot of time on the computer and also read a lot.
