From Trash to Treasure - Not Yet

I really wasn't looking for anything special as my husband and I started out for work this morning. We were driving our usual route in an industrial area when suddenly I spotted coffee bags on the side of the road and yelled, "stop the car!" My husband looked at me like I was crazy, especially when I asked him to back up so that I could go ask the shop owner if I could have the bags. Before my husband had a chance to object I had already jumped out of the car.

You may be reading this and wondering if I have lost my mind. Well, it's all this blog reading!!! Sarah at A Beach Cottage is always posting stories about her amazing free or almost free finds. And last week you should have seen her burlap bag table runner! Sarah's blog is one that I try to read daily so that I can enjoy a trip to the beach every day. Last week I read about the burlap party on Southern Hospitality and happened to see some of the many interesting things people have made with burlap. If you missed the burlap party you might want to go back and look at some of the creative uses for burlap.

You can imagine my excitement when I spotted these bags with amazing color and character. There is no doubt this morning I was suffering with blogger-mania when I saw these bags. When I went in to ask if I could have the old bags, the owner of the shop surprised me with, "oh, you will want some of the lighter colored bags," as if he could read my mind. He had hundreds of these bags in his shop and he gave me my pick of the bunch. I knew I was suffering with the blogger disease when I got to the parking deck at work, took the bags out of the trunk and photographed them - in the parking deck. Just ask me what I plan to do with these bags. Simple answer - I don't know. Any ideas?

Is there a treatment for this disorder? I hope not as I have had so much fun meeting so many people at today's Porch Party!!!! Just in case you missed it, stop in at Rhondi's Rose Colored Glasses.

  1. Oh, I have that disease too. It makes you do the craziest things, like photograph your food and stuff like that. Funny, only other bloggers can understand and appreciate the urgency!!! Well, the bags are wonderful. I can't think of anything offhand, but I remember a favorite blogger maya made...Google her...she made lots of things with burlap. Google burlap and crafts too...I'm going to right now and see what I can come up with. Sending on the link for the napkins this evening.
Can't wait to hear about all the burlap-love!!

  4. Okay...now that I have picked myself up off the floor from laughing so hard I can leave this comment. Sister I can totally relate to the "STOP THE CAR" command. One that my poor hubby hears from time to time.

Glad you scored on these babies. I have a coffee shop here in town that gives them away. So I have got some cute ones too. Really the sky is the limit when it comes for uses. A pillow. Bulletin board. Covering a chair.

Can't wait to see what you do with it. And now that I am typing this...did I return your last e-mail about coming to Carrollton? I can't remember.

  6. No, Jo-jo, You are officially incurable and suffering (or not) from Intermittent Blogger Mania, known, coincidentaly, as IBM!

Actually I have never heard of coffee bags but if they are anything like the foil cartons we buy coffee in .....well I could just sit there and sniff 'em.

Don't worry, somebody will come up with a brilliant idea and then you can give them yours as a starter pack!

  7. Oh yes, I´ve an idea: you should make some pillow-covers with it: it´s very easy and it looks so nice! :D
In the Netherlands this material is quite popular and some brands sell those cushions: www.zusss.nl or www.stapelgoed.com
    Have a nice day!

Side note: You were so lucky your husband stopped, mine wouldn't unless it was a bungee cord for himself. LOL

  11. You know I am so scatterbrained lately. I wanted to keep the table set, but my sweetie wasn't that crazy about it. :-(

I would love for you to come down and visit the shop and have lunch.

  13. I never find treasures like that on the side of the road!

Thank you for all your visits and sweet thoughts to Sea Cottage. And I agree the situation we went through this morning had a purpose. It brought my daughter and I closer together. And we we're able to be slow to anger, quiet, calm, gentle and kind together towards her teacher. As difficult as it was to stand there and endure her hurtfulness, I have to hope that good will come of it.
